Why "Word Fiend"?

Some of my earliest memories have to do with words. I was reading before I entered kindergarten, and it feels as though I have never stopped.

Sitting at breakfast, I read the fine print on the cereal boxes.

If I forget to bring something with me to read, I'll read magazines or pamphlets in waiting rooms -- anything to keep my eyes wandering.

I play Scrabble, Words with Friends and do crosswords. (For a while I even did cryptic crosswords, but I fell out of the habit, and it's a hard one to get back into!)

I am fortunate to have made a career out of this love of words.

After a degree in English literature, I studied advertising (and copywriting) at a community college. While I was home with young children, I did freelance writing. Joining the corporate world, I developed expertise in internal communications, change management, public relations, and media relations.

Over the past three years, I've nurtured a personal blog that touches on my many interests, from photography to health, from food to travel.

But throughout this venture, words have been my most powerful tool. I hone them, I wield them. I keep them handy. Rarely a day goes by when I do not acquire a new word, or learn a new use of an old, familiar word.

I am crazy for words, a fiend for them. Let me share this love with you.
